When we look at our reflection in the mirror, we either love who we see, or hate what we see. We can be judgmental of who we see, or just see the flaws that stick out to us like a bad sunburn, but how many of us truly like the person looking back at us?
I will start by saying that a mirror lies, the distorted product can never tell us how we truly look, simply because each mirror is made differently, some make us look good, while others make us look bigger than what we really are creating a false illusion that either depresses us or makes us prideful.
The topic of this article is smoke and mirrors, because we never can truly see clearly when we only look at the reflection, and the light we use to see with is dim, compared to other lights. The same goes for when we are reading scripture as well.
When we are just starting out with reading the word of God, we can’t see the bigger picture at first, and many will fall away for that very reason, it’s because as humans we are programmed to live in a world of rushing, to get something finished on time.
You want the light of God, and you read some scripture, and pray for something, but when you don’t recieve your prayer right away, what is the first thing that usually happens? We become impatient and give up. Everything we do takes time, losing weight, gaining muscle definition, diet changes, growing hair, or long nails, even sickness takes time to both grow and heal, I mean you don’t just wake up one morning with the brunt of a cold nor would you want to, in general the body has to adjust first.
Satan makes us believe that everything has to happen right then, and he does this to make us irritated when things are slow to progress, so that we fall away and don’t continue with forming a relationship with God. This is the illusion he uses, and he has been using this since the dawn of man when he tempted Eve, he told her that she wouldn’t die if she ate from the tree of knowledge, and once she had eaten it, she saw that she was still alive, so when she gave Adam a bite, he saw that he was also still alive. However what satan didn’t mention was the fact that they died spiritually.
Growing in the bible takes time, time to learn, time to study, and a time to develop. It’s like when you see fog, how you can see nothing but white ground clouds, but once the sun starts to rise, you notice that the fog slowly goes away until the sunlight is fully out and all the fog is gone, making your vision perfect of your surroundings. Same is true with the bible, the more you spend time with it, the more you learn, and over time along with prayer, you will start to notice how clear it becomes.
Never get frustrated when things don’t happen right away, God’s timing is perfect, he is never early nor is he ever late, but right on time. Jesus brought the light to a world full of smoke and mirrors, he made a way for us to see clearly even in the darkest of night.
Don’t just look at your reflection and think you are less than perfect, you are perfect in the eyes of God, he made you and he see’s what he made, and he adores you.
